Living Colour

Emma Wren - Watercolours

Emma Lock- Abstract artist

Frankie Atkinson - Ceramicist

As a group of Artists from Essex and Suffolk, we are passionate about using bold, vivid colours and the feelings they evoke.

Our exhibition embraces the concept of “Living Colour” inspiring and enlightening, mirroring the beauty found in the natural world around us.
Nature is an awesome mixer of beautiful colours, so why look anywhere else for inspiration? The colours we naturally gravitate towards, as well as how we blend them into our living spaces, reflects an intimate connection with our inner selves. There is a scientifically proven correlation between uplifting colours and their capacity to stimulate energy, along with the release of the joy-inducing hormone, Dopamine. Art, has a magical ability to influence mood and emotions, becoming a conduit for positivity. In a world that currently feels heavy with melancholy, embracing a burst of colour can offer a much-needed boost as we move through 2024.

EMMA WREN

Primarily I work in watercolours but not necessarily in a conventional way. I love the effects you can achieve using watercolour pigment and I never tire of flooding the colours and letting the paint do the work!

Along with large floral canvases, I draw quirky animals capturing their personalities and bringing them to life.

My work has sold all over the UK, and has brought a splash of joy to many client’s homes.

EMMA LOCK

Emma’s work pulls inspiration from the natural world and is then re-imagined into contemporary landscapes of her own. Drawing from her emotions and instinct whilst using a variety of materials, mostly acrylic paint, pastels and graphite as her mediums. Emma’s work brings a sense of serenity and depth, balancing the chaos against moments of calm. This latest body of work was inspired by floral bouquets and wild gardens alongside self-reflection.

I am Interested in making the viewer feel some sort of connection or emotional response, and for them to then question that response and feel it deeply. There is something that draws me in emotionally to abstract art. Feelings are attached to colour or a shape, they are emotive. It’s visceral for me, a gut feeling and for me painting this way is how I can truly express myself.
