The word “Church” can mean many different things to different people: Peace, unity, division, sanctuary, love, judgement, fear, hope, uncertainty, home....... . What if the roof was opened up to the sky like Leiston Abbey? The windows and walls removed by time? What would we be left with then?
Ruth Finn - Painter
Ruth Finn’s paintings are usually based on something real; architecture or landscape.
Ruth is inspired by images in real life that reflect the relationship between the human made and natural world we inhabit. The tension, disconnection, harmony and union.
“I was painting in a field last year and was suddenly given the phrase 'Life is a sculpture'
This enabled me to see everything as a moving sculpture: above, below, to the left, to the right, behind, all one. The sky, the earth, the trees, the sea all joined as one. It stopped me having
to label everything and see it as separate. This freed me up to respond and make marks. “
Ruth trained and worked as a theatre set and costume designer in the UK and internationally.
She now works as a painter.
