Woodbridge painter, John Roberts, loves his home town which is why so many of his oils rejoice in the quirky old streets of this beautiful medieval working town. Although he’s a relative newcomer (just about 60 years) it was love at first sight.

Roberts spent most of that time working in art and photography at the studio next to the Riverside Theatre. The Studio is run these days by his daughter and partner so now there is more time for painting.

While the emphasis is always on the town, Roberts often changes direction in subjects on a whim - perhaps following a trip, perhaps an interesting commission sometimes simply the challenge.

“Art of all kinds”, he says, “is the great freedom for us all. No boundaries or fences; no monthly contracts, data updates or passwords…wonderful.”
