“For a very long time I wanted to paint people but they got stuck inside me. I wanted them to be so beautiful and so painfully sad and so ecstatically happy, so wistful, so carefree, so knowing and wise and naïve. And each one should have a bunch of flowers or maybe a bird or better still – the most beautiful butterfly wings.
And they should be surrounded by the deepest, most chocolatey brown to show off their colourful wings – but no! PINK! All shades, all plump and rosy- that would be perfect - but blue might be better.
You can maybe start to understand why they were stuck inside me – until I decided one night that the way to release them would be to paint not one but 50 and then it wouldn’t matter if one had no eyes and one was a bit mad and one a bit smug and one was too pink and one had no head.”
Here I will exhibit my favourite works from this ongoing ‘Figments Fey’ series.
